2004 : 9th Workshop

9th Australian Workshop on Safety Critical Systems and Software

 The Safety Critical Systems Technical Committee held its 9th National Workshop on Safety Critical Systems and Software (SCS 2004) in Brisbane over two days (19-20th August 2004).

This year, the programme included 5 keynote speakers, four being international:

  • Prof Peter Ladkin
    Professor of Computer Networks and Distributed Systems, University of Bielefeld, Germany
    Founding President of the German Chapter of the System Safety Society
  • Dr Claire Marrison
    Manager Safety, Directorate of Safety and Environment Assurance, Airservices Australia
  • Dr Martyn Thomas
    Consultant, a former founder of Praxis, UK from which Praxis Critical Systems emerged.
  • Prof Graham Loomes
    Professor of Economic Behaviour and Decision Theory, University of East Anglia, UK
  • Mr Mike Ellims
    Chief Engineer, Pi Technology, UK

Professor Peter Ladkin also presented a 2-day course, The Causal Analysis of Critical Systems in Brisbane (16-17 August 2004), Canberra (23-24 August 2004) and Melbourne (26-27 August 2004). The course was based on the Why-Because Analysis technique for the investigation of incidents both during development, and in service.

This year's workshop proceedings will appear as Volume 47 in the Conferences in Research and Practice in Information Technology series and a copy will be sent to all members when available.
